Subnautica 2 is Unknown Worlds Entertainment's underwater survival sequel, in Early Access on PC and Xbox Series X|S since May 14, 2026. We have no live-stats API for this game the way we do for Roblox titles, so this hub is built from Unknown Worlds' own Steam listing and news posts rather than a tracker's paraphrase. Reading the Steam store page on August 18, 2026, the game carried a 93% positive rating across 70,900 all-time reviews.

Coverage stance: We have Unknown Worlds' own Steam listing, its own Early Access news posts, and dated press coverage of the May 14, 2026 launch and the ongoing Krafton dispute — and nothing else. We have not played Subnautica 2, so this hub carries no build advice, no strategy tips and no invented mechanics. Codes are covered on a separate codes page, where every signal is dated rather than marked "active."

What Is Live Right Now

The following comes from Unknown Worlds' own Steam store listing, checked August 18, 2026, and the studio's own August 12, 2026 news post — not from a tracker's summary.

  • Publisher listing. Reading the Steam store page today, Unknown Worlds Entertainment is named as both developer and publisher; Krafton does not appear. That matches Game Developer's April 23, 2026 report, which recorded Krafton as already removed from the Steam and Epic listings, with the change's permanence left unresolved.
  • Experimental branch. Unknown Worlds' August 12, 2026 news post describes an opt-in Experimental branch, reached via Steam's Properties → Betas menu or the Xbox Insider Hub, for previewing upcoming content early. Saves are not compatible between the Experimental and main branches, and the post says the branch won't update daily — only ahead of major releases or smaller patches.
  • Price notice. The same Steam listing states, in the developers' own words, that the price of Subnautica 2 will increase once Early Access ends.

Background

Subnautica 2 entered Early Access on May 14, 2026 on Steam, the Epic Games Store and Xbox Series X|S. Per Worthplaying's report dated May 21, 2026, the game sold 1 million copies in the first hour, 2 million within 12 hours, and topped 4 million within five days. Game Informer's May 15, 2026 report separately recorded a peak of 651,000 concurrent players across Steam, the Epic Games Store and Xbox. Unknown Worlds' own roadmap, covered by TheSixthAxis on May 26, 2026, names two near-term updates with no fixed dates: EA 1.1 for biomod, wreck and vehicle-docking fixes plus a sprint feature, and EA 1.2 for co-op tools including voice chat, emotes and reviving.

The launch followed a public dispute between Krafton and three Unknown Worlds executives over a $250 million earnout. Per Gamefile's March 19, 2026 report, a Delaware Chancery Court judge ruled on March 16, 2026 that Krafton had breached its contract by terminating the executives, and ordered CEO Ted Gill reinstated with authority over Early Access release decisions. Game Developer's April 23, 2026 follow-up recorded the dispute as still unresolved on whether Krafton wrongfully impaired the earnout.

How the Game Works

Per Unknown Worlds' own Steam listing and Early Access announcement, Subnautica 2 is a survival adventure set on a new alien planet after a colony ship is lost, in which players build bases, craft tools and explore biomes and creatures either alone or with up to three friends in online co-op — the series' first entry to support multiplayer. The new Tadpole vehicle is built around interchangeable chassis modules, covered in our own Tadpole guide. That is the extent of what Unknown Worlds states first-party. We have not played Subnautica 2, and we are not describing combat mechanics, creature behaviour or progression pacing beyond what the studio itself has published.

Codes

Subnautica 2's only source-listed code signal is a Bilibili livestream cosmetic code for a Seamoth Decoration, distributed during the launch livestream and listed with an expiry of July 1, 2026 — now expired. Codes are entered through Settings → Debug/Info → Register Item Code, per the official Subnautica 2 help centre. Full detail, sources and the Reaper Leviathan Statue non-code are on the codes page.

Update Rule

We do not state a sales figure, roadmap item or dispute detail without an official page or a dated report behind it, and we do not mark a code as active just because another page says it is. This page records what was checked, and when.
